BRIGHTON University wants to close One World Nursery.

Everybody surely knows how vitally important early years education is and One World Nursery provides exceptionally high quality early years education, serving both Brighton University and its students, and the local community.

One World Nursery is also recognised as a Nursery of Sanctuary because of its work with refugees.

I have worked with One World on a local authority project to engage boys in early reading activities and as a consultant for an equalities education charity. This nursery is an asset and a credit both to the university and to the city.

To close it is an act of short-sighted folly and anti-education vandalism.

Brighton’s children will lose their nursery and 11 nursery workers will lose their jobs, and the university will “save” a fraction of the salary it happily pays its vice chancellor.

This is surely unacceptable. I hope people will write in protest to the University Governing Body, asking them to change their minds - the address is registrar@brighton.ac.uk

Let’s save a vital, valuable resource for the city’s children.
