THIS is thought to be the cheapest place in the city to buy petrol amid the highest prices in nearly two years.

Motorists hitting the road to take advantage of relaxed coronavirus restrictions and warmer weather are being stung by petrol prices reaching a high of nearly two years.

A litre of the fuel will set you back an average of £1.28 at UK forecourts, government figures show.

It has not been that expensive since August 2019.

Diesel costs an average of £1.32 per litre, which is an amount not seen since January 2020.

The cost of filling up a typical 55-litre petrol family car has since risen by around £13, while a full tank of diesel is approximately £11 more.

So, with the cost of fuel at a high, we took a look at some of the cheapest places in Brighton you can fill your car, using the leading comparison site Confused.com.

Asda, Hollingbury

Taking the top spot as the cheapest place in the city to buy petrol is Asda filling station in Hollingbury.

Located beside the superstore, this petrol station is often filled with shoppers filling their tanks after a busy shopping spree.

With a price of £1.23 per litre as of May 26, it is well below the average for the UK.

Asda, Brighton Marina

It is no surprise that the Asda filling station in Brighton Marina is on this list, given how cheap the fuel is.

Like its sister store in Hollingbury, the marina filling station shares the same price per litre of £1.23.

Sainsbury's, Old Shoreham road

Taking third place is the Sainsbury's filling station in the Old Shoreham road.

With a price of £1.25 per litre, it is slightly more expensive than its supermarket competitors at Asda.

BP, Lewes Road

Those living in the heart of the city will be pleased to know that the BP filling station in Lewes Road is among the cheapest in the city.

Esso, Eastern Road

Rounding off our list is Essoo in Eastern Road with a price of £1.27 per litre - 4p more expensive than the cheapest petrol station in the city.
