POLICE were called to a distressed man with a petrol can in a city centre street.
Officers, the fire service and ambulances were called to Preston Street, Brighton, at 7.05pm last night.
A cordon was set up to ensure the safety of the man, the wider public and the police.
A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Following negotiations, the man was safely detained.
“We’d like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while we responded to this incident.”
