FOUR truckloads of rubbish have been cleared from three traveller encampments left over the weekend.

Teams from Adur and Worthing Councils spent eight hours cleaning the waste that was left behind by the groups.

Sharing pictures on social media, cleansing teams were forced to remove plastic bottles, bin bags and even carpet from sties at Lancing Manor, Goring Greensward and Lyons Farm Open Space.

Writing on Facebook, a spokesman for the council said: "Our refuse and cleansing teams were busy over the weekend clearing up waste left at three separate traveller encampments.

"It took teams eight hours in total to remove four truck loads of debris.

"They were supported by the Councils' coastal office, parks and technical services teams.

"Our thanks to Sussex Police and West Sussex County Council for their assistance throughout the weekend too."

The cleanup comes days after Sussex Police blocked off Marine Drive, Ferring, between Sea Lane and Aldsworth Avenue after caravans began arriving at Goring Gap on Friday.

Pictures taken from the site show the caravans and other vehicles parked at the getaway spot, which sees thousands of visitors each summer.

Last month, The Argus reported how caravans at the site were served with notices ordering them to leave.

A court hearing was booked for Wednesday, April 28, which would have given the power to enforce the notices should the caravans failed to vacate of their own accord.

At the time, West Sussex County Council said they were continuing to monitor the site, along with Sussex Police.
