THESE rather serious-looking schoolgirls are in the middle of a performance – but where are they?
This great Argus archive picture is thought to have been taken on Hastings Pier in about 1935 and the girls are dancing in the pavilion.
We have a shot of Terminus Road, Eastbourne, taken around the same time, or maybe a couple of years later.
It was taken from the Bolton Road junction looking towards the station. Woolworths is on the right and the shop on the left later became International stores.
The bus is heading for a district in Eastbourne called Archery.
The pictures come alive with colourisation but sometimes the shade is not quite right. Both this bus and the trolley buses in our final picture are the wrong colour – the latter should be green.
They were pictured in Harold Road, Hastings, near the junction with Barley Lane, in about 1940.
