THE air ambulance helicopter landed on the A27 after reports a toddler had been hurt in a crash.

Emergency services including the police and paramedics were called to the scene on the busy route near Chichester.

It was reported that the westbound carriageway was closed to traffic out towards Emsworth.

There are also reports of a "serious" road traffic collision on the road.

Images taken from R Van and shared by Sussex Incidents on Twitter showed the helicopter landing on the carriageway.

Following the incident, Sussex Roads Policing PC Pete May said it was a single vehicle crash.

He thanked motorists for their patience while the road was closed, and said it was important to get the right care for a three-year-old passenger.

PC May confirmed that both the ambulance service and the Kent, Sussex, and Surrey Air Ambulance had been called to the scene.
