A BODY has been found following a desperate search for a kayaker who got into difficulty off the Sussex coast.

Emergency services were called to Pagham and Selsey beach in a bid to find Shane Davies yesterday afternoon (Saturday, June 12).

The 33-year-old went missing at about 3.30pm and was separated from his friend as they swam to the shore.

Images show HM Coastguard and police teams searching the beaches in a hope to find Shane.

The coastguard helicopter was also called to help the search into the night.

But now Sussex Police has confirmed a body has been found.

The force said: “A body has been found in the search for Shane Davies, who went missing after getting into difficulty while kayaking with a friend in the Pagham/Selsey beach area.

“The 33-year-old went missing at about 3.30pm on Saturday (12 June) after becoming separated from his friend as they swam to shore.

“Coastguard and police conducted extensive searches of the area.

“Sadly, on Sunday morning (13 June) a body was found in the water which is believed to be Shane.

“Next of kin have been informed and the matter has been passed to the Coroner's Office.”

Inspector Oliver Pullen said: "Our thoughts are with Shane's family at this incredibly difficult time.”
