A TAKEAWAY boss appeared in court over breaching fire safety rules at a restaurant.

Khoo Hock Ng was charged by West Sussex County Council over the New Sunflower Chinese takeaway in Salvington Road, Worthing.

It was claimed that the boss had failed to put in fire detectors and smoke alarms, leaving those inside “at risk of death or serious injury in the case of a fire”.

At Crawley Magistrates Court Ng admitted failing to comply with fire regulations and failing to safeguard safety.

He was ordered to pay a £1,418 fine.

Magistrate Ann Schroder also ordered Ng, of Salvington Road, Worthing, to pay a £142 surcharge and prosecution costs of £1,641.

He agreed to pay the total of £3,201 before the end of June.
