PEOPLE have been celebrating their favourite parts of the county as part of Sussex Day.

On June 16 each year, there are celebrations of the heritage and culture of the county.

Since its launch in 2007, Sussex Day has become a popular way for residents to celebrate their county's rich heritage.

People and organisations have been sharing photos online of some of their favourite parts of the county.

Sussex County Cricket Club shared a picture of the County Cricket Ground alongside a message saying: "The greatest county. Happy Sussex Day!"

The National Trust South East chose to share their favourite parts of the county on Twitter.

This includes Bateman's in Burwash near Etchingham, Nymans in Handcross near Haywards Heath, Petworth Mansion and Park and Bodiam Castle in Bodiam near Robertsbridge.

In a tweet, Horsham FC, alongside a picture of The Camping World Community Stadium in Hop Oast, said: "We're feeling particularly proud of this little corner of Sussex today."

South Downs National Park shared a stunning picture of the Cuckmere Estuary alongside the unofficial county motto of Sussex, 'We wunt be druv'.

Vet, Marc Abraham, who was recently made an OBE, said: "First came here as a locum vet for a weekend of work over 20 years ago and never left.

"So if you're a nature fan like me, but have never visited, then come and check out the South Downs, local beaches and starlings our breathtaking sunsets."

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve shared the news that the Sussex Emerald moth has started breeding in the county for the first time this century.

They tweeted a message saying: "On this day, it's great to confirm that a rare moth is now breeding in Sussex for the first time.

"The Sussex Emerald moth was first recorded in Britain near Eastbourne 70 years ago, and it later established a small breeding colony at Dungeness in Kent."
