THE BIG screen showing the Euros and films has been taken down following social distancing issues.

Brighton Marina had initially cancelled the showing of the Euros after England's match against Croatia on Sunday. Hundreds of people showed up for the game, making it difficult for the event to be Covid-19 secure.

There were gates at the entrance to the game on Sunday, which was meant to control the number of people in attendance. Brighton Marina had previously announced that the venue was "operating at 50 per cent capacity".

During the game, fans started throwing bottles and cans. Some stayed behind to clear up the rubbish and glass. The Marina was due to show all the matches, not just the England games.

However, now the screen in the Village Square is being taken down altogether.

A statement from Brighton Marina said: "The health and safety of our guests are of paramount importance to us, so we have taken the decision to remove the digital screen.

"Following the screening of the Euros, we are reviewing the security provided with our external provider.

"We appreciate that this update will not be welcome news to those who have made plans to attend these live events at Brighton Marina.

"We can only apologise for the disappointment this may cause. All other events and retail remain unaffected."

The removal of the screen means that other events involving the screen will also be cancelled. The marina had been using the giant five by three-metre LED screen to show films, although these won't go ahead now either.
