MORE than a dozen caravans are parked on a cricket club's field.

It is reported the vehicles broke into Portslade Cricket Club on Tuesday evening.

About 14 caravans have parked on the field, with some metres away from the cricket pitch.

Conservative councillor Dawn Barnett visited yesterday afternoon.

The Hangleton and Knoll representative claims she was told "f*** off, we're on holiday" after confronting the group.

She has demanded Brighton and Hove City Council move the caravans on to a more suitable location, such as the St Michael's Way site just north of the A27.

A spokesman for the council said “Yesterday afternoon we were made aware of an unauthorised encampment of caravans at Benfield Valley.

“We and the police will be making a joint visit this morning to find out more and to assess the welfare needs of the group.

“Following this visit we will consider an appropriate course of action.”

Earlier this month, a police block was put in place after caravans started arriving at a beauty spot.

Sussex Police blocked off Marine Drive, Ferring, between Sea Lane and Aldsworth Avenue after caravans began arriving at Goring Gap on June 4.

Pictures taken at the site showed the caravans and other vehicles parked at the getaway spot, which sees thousands of visitors each summer.
