A SWIMMING pool which was forced to remain closed due to flood damage is almost ready to reopen.

The Prince Regent Swimming Complex in Church Street, Brighton, suffered a major flood over the Easter weekend back in April, causing "severe" damage to the majority of the building's electrical system.

The pool has remained closed for the past two months so works could be carried out to make the complex safe.

The council said it has been a "mammoth and challenging task" to replace damaged wiring and distribution boards throughout the building, but the facility is due to reopen on Monday, July 12, following electrical testing and inspections.

Councillor Martin Osborne, co-chairman of the Tourism, Equalities, Communities and Culture Committee, said: “We know that people are keen to see the Prince Regent re-open as soon as possible and apologise for the delay, but the safe installation of wiring and distribution boards and checking of all the various electrical and mechanical services has been an absolute necessity.”

Alternative swimming facilities are still available at the King Alfred Leisure Centre and St Luke’s Swimming Pool.

While the Prince Regent has been out of action, Freedom Leisure, which operates they city’s leisure centres, has relocated as many swimming lessons and clubs as is possible to these pools and will be contacting customers with updates.
