BRIGHTON has been named the top seaside location where residents can earn the most from renting out their driveways as parking spaces.

With the number of staycation visitors expected to boom this summer amid Covid-19 travel restrictions, homeowners renting an empty driveway in the city can earn hundreds, according to online parking portal YourParkingSpace.

Research by the company found income from renting out driveways was highest in Brighton, at an average of £255 per month.

Two other Sussex towns made it into the top ten list, with Hastings coming in at fourth place and Worthing in seventh place.

Residents could earn about £116 on average per month in Hastings for renting their driveway, while those in Worthing could make about £110.

Harrison Woods, chief executive of YourParkingSpace, said: “With overseas summer holidays looking uncertain for many, a staycation will now be the preferred choice for millions of Brits.

“We’ve already seen that parking spaces in seaside resorts are rare properties as drivers battle each other for a spare place.

“However, it does mean the nearby residents with an empty driveway are perfectly placed to offering a parking solution by renting out their empty driveway to needy motorists, while earning some additional income on the side.”
