HEAVY rain and thunderstorms are expected to batter the county today, as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for 24 hours.

Homes and businesses across Sussex could be flooded "quickly" as a downpouring of rain is forecasted to last until Saturday morning.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms, with delays to train and bus services expected.

According to the forecast, there is a small chance that some communities will become cut off by flooded roads.

There is also a "slight chance" that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

A spokesman from the Met Office said: "Spells of heavy rain may lead to some travel disruption and flooding.

"For some, rain may be accompanied by thunder and lightning.

"There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost

"There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."

The forecasted thunderstorms come just days after the Brighton and Hove basked in temperatures reaching almost 30C.

Those eager to enjoy the sunshine found a rare spot on the pebbled beach, with many braving the sea to cool off from the roasting temperatures.

Hundreds of people opted for beer gardens instead, with live music and DJ sets at some venues.
