A COW has been spotted "wandering" around Lower Bevendean and "waiting for the bus" during an evening stroll around a residential area.

Sam Lineham-Pulling thought he was "seeing things" when he spotted the animal on a footpath while he cycled home from work at 9.30pm yesterday.

After a quick double-take, he watched the cow stroll past Bevendean School and to a bus stop, where it "waited" for the next service to arrive.

Watching the animal wander harmlessly through the street, he then rang the police who dispatched officers to guide it home.

He described the sighting as "crazy" and laughed at the idea of a cow roaming the streets of Lower Bevendean.

"I was coming home from work, cycling and came up by Bevendean Primary School and the cow was just standing on the sidewalk," he said.

"I looked twice and thought I was seeing things.

"It wandered down into the road and everything - it was crazy.

"By Bevendean Primary School there is a little pathway from the fields and I reckon that is where it has come from.

"It has wandered all the way down to the bus stop and wandered all the way back up."

Clueless cows strolling through the streets of Sussex is not an all uncommon appearance.

Just last week, a herd of up to 100 cows blocked the roads as they roamed through Haywards Heath.

Walking towards Haywards Heath train station, one of the cows even managed to make it onto the platform.

The others continued on their journey, making it as far as the high street.

At the time, inspector Darren Taylor said: "Not going to milk this, however!

"Reports from motorists of 100 cows blocking the Balcombe Road yesterday at 9.30pm as they walked up towards the train station.

"One of the cows even made it onto the platform of the station, whilst some decided to head towards the High Street."
