A CIVIC leader has described his shock after a teenager died in an "absolutely devastating" incident despite the best efforts of paramedics to save her life.

Emergency services, including police and paramedics, were called shortly after 5.30pm on Thursday following concerns for a teenage girl at Bennetts Field, in Brighton Road, Horsham.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene.

Horsham District Councillor Colin Minto described the incident as "absolutely devastating."

He told The Argus: "All of our thoughts and hearts go out to her family and friends.

"It is absolutely devastating to hear."

Pictures taken from the scene show the air ambulance landing at the park, as officers from Sussex Police lined the perimeter.

A police van was also snapped on the green, while emergency services dealt with the incident.

According to Sussex Police, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

A spokesman for the force said: "Shortly after 5.30pm on Thursday, June 17, police were called following concerns for a teenage girl at Bennetts Field in Brighton Road, Horsham.

“Officers attended, supported by the ambulance service, and despite the best efforts of paramedics, the girl was sadly pronounced dead.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and officers are providing support to the girl’s family at this difficult time.”
