THERE has been 149 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Sussex, according to the latest daily figures.

Data from Public Health England shows there were 59 new cases recorded in Brighton and Hove as of 9am yesterday.

It takes the total number of people who have tested positive in the city to 15,271.

According to the most recent seven day figures up to June 13, the rate of infection in the city stands at 85.9 per 100,000 population - higher than the England average, at 77.5 per 100,000.

In East Sussex there were 17 cases recorded over the period, bringing the county’s total number to 30,934 people.

There were 73 more cases confirmed in West Sussex, where there has now been a total of 43,046 cases.

The 149 cases in Sussex were among 882 cases recorded across the South East.

A total of 555,808 people have now tested positive for Covid-19 in the region.

As of 4pm yesterday, the number of recorded cases increased by 10,476 across the UK.

It brings the total national figure to 4,610,893, since the pandemic began.

Yesterday there were 11 deaths confirmed across the UK, within 28 days of a positive test. It brings the national death toll to 127,956.
