I SEE we have another absurd suggestion on the running of this city, both from the proposers and objectors.

Ban all cars from Brighton and Hove?

We now have petrol and diesel cars being replaced by electric. The big danger is diesel as that is cancer causing. Currently most trains in the city are diesel, the majority of buses as well. Delivery vans are mainly diesel too, so why the concentration on cars?

To get from Portslade to East Brighton is up to 90 minutes by bus, just 20 minutes by car using the A27, thereby not polluting the city centre.

A referendum is being asked for by protesters. How divisive as Portslade and Hove will be something like 90 per cent against car-free, the young and car-less people in central Brighton mainly in favour.

How the majority overall falls is anybody's guess, but highly likely to cause division and trouble.

The only upside is that at long last pressure may be applied to get Hove free from Brighton and return to having a council looking after where the majority of council tax payers come from.

Brighton is a huge drain on resources as it has a disproportionate number of benefit claimants and receives massive amounts of funding.  It causes massive pollution as children are transported from as far as East Brighton to Portslade schools and puts pressure on council house stock as it has more poor people than Hove and Brighton people often get social housing in Hove.

Many Hove children cannot get school places in Hove and have to travel miles to Brighton schools.
