A MEDICAL student has appeared in court accused of throwing sulphuric acid over a young doctor while she stood on her doorstep.

Milad Rouf, of Newport Road, Roath, Cardiff, appeared at Hove Crown Court charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, using sulphuric acid “with intent to burn, maim, disfigure or disable”.

The 25-year-old wore a grey tracksuit and a blue mask and nodded to confirm his name when asked by Judge Christine Henson QC.

He did not enter a plea and is expected to appear before the court again on July 5.

Officers responded to a report of a noxious substance being thrown over Rym Alaoui in the doorway of a property in Steine Gardens around 4.20pm on Thursday, May 20.

The foundation doctor, who is in her twenties, was rushed to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.

Afterwards, residue of the acid was seen on the door of the house, which was cordoned off by police investigating the attack.

A spokesman from Sussex Police said: "Anyone who has information which could help our investigation into the assault should report online or ring 101 quoting Operation Overstone."
