A MP is hoping the England football team will "go up a gear" in their knockout match against Germany tonight.

Belief is growing in the country and in Brighton and Hove that England may achieve something great at this summers Euros.

Fans are getting ready to cheer on the team tonight, and while Hove and Portslade MP Peter Kyle is not the biggest football, he will be lending his support to the Three Lions.

Hove and Portslade MP Peter Kyle said: "I am excited. I don't watch football that often but I wouldn't miss this match, it's historic.

"England has done well to get through to this stage, but now's the time we'll see our national team go up a gear and give us something to cheer about."

Mr Kyle was appointed as the Labour party's new shadow schools minister last month. He replaced Wes Streeting, the MP for Ilford North, who has been promoted to another shadow cabinet-level role covering child poverty.

Gareth Southgate's side will face off against Joachim Low's team tonight at 5pm in the round of 16, and the winner will advance to the quarter-finals of the Euros.

Both teams will fancy their chances of winning the whole competition after seeing sides like Portugal, the current holders, and France, who were the favourites, crash out in their matches.

The winning team of the match will play either Sweden or Ukraine in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 on July 3 in Rome, Italy.
