THIS is when a crowd of cyclists will ride naked through the streets of Brighton.. and how you can join them.

Hundreds of nude cycling enthusiasts will saddle up and ride through the city as part of the Brighton Naked Bike Ride on August 15.

Starting at Preston Park, riders will travel through the city in an event that aims to "empower" participants in a celebration of bikes and body power.

The event had been scheduled to take place last year but was called off for the first time in 15 years due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The ride had taken place every year since 2006.

Writing on Facebook, organisers said: "Every June (under normal circumstances), in cities around the world, people ride bikes naked to celebrate cycling and the human body.

"The ride demonstrates the vulnerability of cyclists on the road and is a protest against oil dependency.

"Since June 2006 the annual Brighton Naked Bike Ride has brought a heady mix of fearless frivolity, freedom of expression and eco-politics onto the streets of Brighton.

"The ride aims to empower participants in a fun, celebration of bikes and body-power, while drawing attention to the environmental, health and safety problems associated with car and oil dependency and demanding more space for cycling as a form of low-impact transport.

The Argus:

"Our nudity symbolises our vulnerability as fellow creatures on this Earth.

"The ride demonstrates the power and confidence we experience when we are many, overcoming our personal fears to feel safe and strong together.

"The 2021 ride will be on Sunday 15 August. We will assemble from 12 noon at The Level for body-painting, bike decorating and info stalls, then a 1.30pm departure."
