PACKAGES of cocaine with a street value of around £2m have been found bobbing off Seaford.

More drugs were found off the Sussex coast on Sunday as police found packages floating in the channel.

Four men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of drug smuggling after the packages were discovered.

They have all been released on conditional bail while enquiries continue.

The discovery comes after recovered a tonne of cocaine worth £80m washed up on the Sussex coast in May.

One of the biggest drugs hauls in British history had been bobbing to the surface and landing on beaches along the south coast near Hastings and Newhaven.

The drugs were thought to have originated in South America.

National Crime Agency investigators say the drugs were wrapped in waterproof bags and attached to lifejackets.

The first bags were recovered when people spotted them on a beach near Hastings.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Shortly after 9pm on Thursday, July 8, police received a report of a small number of packages in the sea off the coast of Seaford.

“The packages were tested, and were found to contain Class A drugs.

“Additional packages have since been recovered, taking the total estimated street value to around £2 million, and officers continue to maintain a presence in the area to identify any further packages.”

Members of the public are urged to dial 999 immediately if they come across any suspect packages in the area.

Anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the vicinity on Thursday evening, or who may have any other information relating to the matter is asked to contact police online or by calling 101 quoting serial 1518 of 08/07.
