A POWER outage has caused major disruption on the trains with hours of delays.

A failure of the electricity supply in the Arundel area meant Southern Rail trains could not move between Arundel and Barnham, as well between Littlehampton and Worthing this afternoon.

The outage cause hours of delays, with passengers who had not set off on their journey warned to delay their travel.

Taking three hours to fix, engineers worked to restore the signalling outage while passengers remained stranded onboard trains.

During that time, stranded passengers were moved into a station and replacement busses were organised.

Train services are beginning to return to normal following the disruption earlier today.

A spokesman from Southern Rail said: "We have now been advised that signalling has been restored but services will have to run at a reduced speed whilst further inspections are carried out.

"Please continue to allow plenty of extra time to complete travel this afternoon."
