AN ANIMAL lover has befriended a dog in Thailand - and is calling for a family in the UK to adopt him.

David Aitchison formed an attachment with the stray while volunteering at the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket, Thailand.

The 58-year-old is unable to bring Rocker home with him to Saltdean because he already has an elderly dog.

So he is now calling on someone to give the eight-year-old pooch a chance as a family pet.

David said: “I have been lucky enough to spend many happy hours with Rocker during my time as a volunteer at Soi Dog Foundation.

“Rocker is an absolute gem.

“Not only is he a very handsome chap, but he’s also extremely intelligent, enthusiastic and always great company and fun to be with.

“Spending time with Rocker was always very special.

“Rocker shines when he spends time with people, but sadly he has spent much of his life at the Soi Dog Foundation.”

David spent 25 years as a company director and is now semi-retired.

Alongside work for an estate agents, he travels to Thailand to help dogs at the foundation.

He has struck up a friendship with Rocker who ended up at the charity’s kennels because he was found injured and needing medical assistance.

Rocker was found limping and suffering with a wound.

Vets gave him an x-ray and discovered he had broken his leg.

However, they have been able to nurse him back to full fitness.

Rocker has now spent six years being looked after by the Soi Dog Foundation, which cares for about 1,400 animals.

David, who owns a 12-year-old border collie of his own, is hoping to help Rocker find a forever home.

Rocker would be happy living with adults and older children in a home with a garden. He would love to live with someone who will regularly take him for long walks.

The Soi Dog Foundation is a UK registered not-for-profit charity, helping abandoned street dogs and cats. Soi is a Thai word for street, and there are a large number of strays in the country.

The foundation has saved thousands of dogs, including many who would otherwise have been used for meat.

The charity gets support from celebrities including Ricky Gervais and Dame Judi Dench.

Due to the pandemic and recently imposed restrictions on the import of adopted dogs to the USA, the charity is asking people in the UK to offer their homes to animals in need.
