ALMOST all legal lockdown restrictions and requirements have eased across England today, with face masks no longer compulsory, limits on the number of people attending gatherings lifted, and social distancing scrapped.

However, with the government still advising people to wear face coverings in crowded enclosed spaces, some businesses are taking their own approach to ensure their customers and colleagues remain safe.

Here are the new rules in place for wherever you do your regular shop.

Asda

Signs and announcements in Asda stores will continue to advise customers to wear a face covering, with free face masks available at entrances for those who wish to wear one.

Perspex screens at checkouts and cleaning stations will remain in place.

Tesco

While wearing a face covering is not required, customers and staff are encouraged to wear one to “be on the safe side".

Limits on the number of people in the store will remain, alongside protective screens at checkouts, hand sanitiser stations and signs asking customers to keep a safe distance from others.

Waitrose

Waitrose will also recommend both staff and customers wear a face mask when visiting its stores, although this will be up to individual judgement.

Hand hygiene and store cleaning practices in place since the start of the pandemic will remain in force, along with protective screens at checkouts and hand sanitising stations.

Sainsbury’s

Tannoy messages will encourage Sainsbury’s customers to wear a face covering if they can, while acknowledging that it is a personal choice.

Staff and leadership teams will also be advised to do the same, with the retailer keeping screens in place between customers and staff as well as strict cleaning regimes and hand sanitising stations.

Morrisons

Following the government’s guidance, Morrisons will also be advising its customers to wear masks in its stores and to maintain social distancing where they can.

They will continue to offer free face coverings to those who may have forgotten theirs and are also keeping sanitising stations and protective screens in place, alongside regular store cleaning.

Aldi

Although not required, Aldi will continue to recommend customers and staff wear face coverings when visiting the store for the safety of everyone in the store.

Other measures, like hand sanitiser and protective screens, will remain in place similar to other supermarkets.

Lidl

Signs at store entrances of Lidl encouraging people to wear face masks will remain in place, but will not be mandatory for entry.

Perspex screens at checkouts and hand sanitising stations will also remain for the time being, as well as offering face coverings at entrances to then purchase when customers complete their shop.

Marks and Spencer

Despite masks being optional as of today, Marks and Spencer will advise customers to wear face coverings when the store is busy - in line with government guidance.

The retailer also advises people to give everyone space, with extensive hygiene measures remaining in place.
