A NEW free Oyster photocard for 11 to 18-year-olds was launched today by London Mayor Ken Livingstone.
It is claimed the Zip Card will be essential for the young people in his age group who qualify for free bus and tram travel in London. From June 1, they will have to touch in on buses and trams and show their photocards on request if they wish to take advantage of free travel.
The card will make it easier to catch those who try to abuse the scheme, Mayor Livingstone has said.
Anyone who commits anti-social behaviour on buses and trams will have their free cards taken away.
Zip will bring together the different young persons' free travel schemes under one recognised branded card.
Anyone aged 16 to 18 on August 31 prior to the start of the academic year, in full time further education or on a work-based learning scheme and living a London borough can travel for free on London's buses and trams.
More information is available at www.tfl.gov.uk/zip and the card can be applied for at Post Offices now.
