A FIRE in the roof of a residential property has now been extinguished.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in Church Road, Polegate, about 2.15pm on Tuesday.

The road was partially blocked in both directions.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue said all people were accounted for after a fire began in the roof space of the property.

Crews from Eastbourne, Seaford and Herstmonceux attended the scene.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, two main jets, one hose reel jet and a hydrant to extinguish the fire.

As of 4pm, the fire had been extinguished.

An East Sussex Fire and Rescue spokesman said the incident had been scaled down to two appliances.

“Firefighters will now carry out salvage work and dampening down of the scene,” he said.
