POLICE were called to a fight that broke out in shared accommodation over someone eating their food too loudly.

Sussex Police were tasked with dealing with the brawl yesterday in Burgess Hill.

Mid Sussex Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Darren Taylor explained what happened.

He said: "The team attended a somewhat tense situation yesterday in Bexhill.

"Two tenants in shared accommodation were reported to be fighting each other due to one of them eating their food too loudly.

"After separating them, neither wanted to make any allegations apart from the food issue."

Misophonia, which means "hatred of sound", is a condition in which sufferers experience intense and involuntary reactions to certain sounds made by other people.

These are referred to as "trigger" sounds and often include the sound of someone chewing, breathing or speaking and for sufferers, usually related to mouth, throat or facial activity.

The condition is common and affects anywhere between six per cent to 20 per cent of people.

Those with the more severe forms can find themselves unable to tolerate family, work, public or social situations.
