THE A259 has reopened after a crash left a pedestrian with serious injuries.

There were significant traffic delays after the South Coast Road was closed both ways at Peacehaven yesterday afternoon.

Police said a car collided with a man at about 3.45pm at the junction of Downland Avenue

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for treatment.

The road has now reopened and AA sensors show traffic is flowing in the area this morning.

Sussex Police have issued an appeal following yesterday's collision.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact the police either online at or by calling 101, quoting Operation Mastermind."
