THE Royal Bank of Scotland has announced it is closing a branch in Brighton as a result of customers moving online.

The branch in Castle Square will close for good on November 4 as the demand for physical services continue to fall.

According to the bank, many customers are shifting to online banking because it is "faster and easier".

A Royal Bank of Scotland spokesperson said: "We understand and recognise that digital solutions aren’t right for everyone or every situation, and that when we close branches we have to make sure that no one is left behind.

“As with many industries, most of our customers are shifting to mobile and online banking, because it’s faster and easier for people to manage their financial lives.

“We take our responsibility seriously to support the people who face challenges in moving online, so we are investing to provide them with support and alternatives that work for them.”

It comes weeks after Llloyds Banking Group announced it is closing 44 more branches including one in Brighton.

The branch in Preston Circus will close its doors for good, as the bank looks to ramp up numbers banking online.

Lloyds said 29 Lloyds Bank and 15 Halifax branches would close, adding that customers were carrying out “significantly” fewer transactions at these locations.
