A SEAFRONT venue has announced it is to host a Pride event this weekend.

Drag Queens, DJs and performers will descend on Rockwater, Hove for the bar’s first Pride event – HMS Rockwater - which is set to take place on Saturday and Sunday.

Founder Luke Davis says he wanted to host a “glamourous” event after the annual Brighton Pride festival was cancelled.

He said: "Despite the renowned Brighton Pride being cancelled due to COVID-19, we still wanted to mark Pride Month 2021 with the glitz and glamour the event deserves.

“While Brighton & Hove residents will be doing their bit to celebrate the heroes in our community, for those looking for a venue, Rockwater Hove will be celebrating Pride with a series of fantastic activities and events.”

The activities due to take place include a brunch hosted by drag queen Ophelia Payne and a comedy picnic on Hove lawns.

Rockwater has partnered with the LGBT+ charity Swithboard for the event.

Luke said: “As a Brighton & Hove based charity that has been listening to, supporting and connecting LGBTQ+ communities, the extravaganza at the H.M.S Rockwater will be the perfect opportunity to show our appreciation for the work they have done for a host of social causes."
