The Green city council, in its environmental wisdom, has struck in the area of Dukes Mound again.

Not content with ripping down the green wall, it has now installed traffic lights at the top of the mound, at the junction with Marine Parade. I lived a few yards away from that junction for eight years and never saw a road accident happen there, or any particular problems with traffic joining or leaving the main road.

But now there are permanent queues, with engines idling, for one set of lights or another. Is this because we are presumed better off with an increase in air pollution?
