COVID-19 infections rates have continued to rise across multiple areas of Sussex.

All Covid-19 restrictions were lifted on July 19, however, rates of infection are increasing in eight areas in Sussex.

A total of 4,876 people tested positive for Covid across the region in the week ending August 6.

Cases are highest in Brighton and Hove, rising from 1,139 on July 30 to 1,373 on August 6. The current infection rate per 100,000 in the city is 471.

The next highest case rate is in Crawley, which has seen a rise of 59 cases, from 310 to 369.

There has also been a rise of 19 cases in Adur from 177 to 196.

Infection rates have also increased in Mid Sussex, Chichester, Worthing, Horsham and Eastbourne.

In Mid Sussex, there has been a rise of 91 positive cases taking the area's total to 451, with an infection rate of 296 per 100,000 people.

The infection rate is one higher than in Chichester, which has also had an increase of 19, taking its total to 358.

Worthing has had 18 more positive cases taking its total up to 322. Horsham now has a total of 372 cases after an increase of 76.

Eastbourne's 176 cases have increased by 41 to a total of 217. These areas match the current trend in the country as a whole.

England has had a reported rise in cases from 162,511 to 167,482, with an infection rate of 296 per 100,000 people.

However, cases are decreasing in five areas of Sussex.

Lewes, Arun, Hastings, Wealden and Rother have all seen a decline in Covid-19 cases.

Arun's cases dropped to 375 from 393, and Lewes had 227 cases which are down from 239 cases the previous week.

Arun now has an infection rate of 233 per 100,000 people, and Lewes's infection rate is 219 per 100,000 people.

Hastings saw a drop of 33 cases from 209 to 176 positive cases, while Wealden had 14 fewer cases. The area had 320 cases but now has 306 cases.

The infection rate in Hastings is 190 per 100,000 people, and in Wealden, it is 188 per 100,000 people. Rother has seen a decline in its amount of cases decrease from 162 to 134 and has an infection rate of 139 per 100,000 people.
