A WOMAN was arrested this afternoon (August 13) after carrying a plastic toy gun in Brighton.
Police were called to the Marks and Spencer store in Western Road following reports of a woman seen with a suspected firearm.
The 53-year-old woman was arrested on supicion of a firearms offence and taken into custody to be questioned.
The black toy gun was also seized.
A spokeswoman from Sussex Police said: "Sussex Police were called to a report of a woman seen with a suspected firearm at the Marks and Spencer store in Western Road, Brighton shortly before 2.20pm today (August 13).
"Officers swiftly responded and arrested a 53-year-old woman on suspicion of a firearms offence and she was taken into custody for questioning.
"A black plastic toy gun was seized."
The arrest comes the day after a gunman killed five people in a shooting spree in Plymouth, in Britain's worst mass shooting for over a decade.
