THESE pictures show the huge emergency response after a child was left seriously injured when he was hit by a car in a school car park.

The eight-year-old was taken to hospital by air ambulance following the crash in College Road, Ardingly, at about 4.30pm on Monday.

He is being treated at St George’s Hospital in London and while his injuries are serious, they are not thought to be life threatening.

Six other people – five children and one adult – were all taken to local hospitals for treatment to minor injuries following the accident which involved a blue Tesla.

Police and ambulance crews were pictured at Ardingly College and the road was blocked for more than three hours while they dealt with the incident.

Images also show the Tesla car involved in the incident being taken away from the scene.

A child was reportedly trapped underneath the electric car during the incident.

Sussex Police confirmed that the driver, a 47-year-old woman, was uninjured.

Superintendent James Collis said: “I’d like to thank our emergency services partners and members of the public who assisted at the scene. Our thoughts are with those there yesterday and their families.

“The cause of the collision will form part of our investigation, and we ask people not to speculate at this time.

“Thank you to those that have already given details. Anyone else who saw what happened or who has any other information, including any relevant dash cam or mobile phone footage, is asked to please get in touch.”
