CARE home residents welcomed a visit from their new therapy dog called Stanley.

Red Oaks care home, Henfield, surprised its residents with the dog last week as he came for a visit with owner Julia Mitchell.

Stanley is said to be "an enormous fluffy" German Leonberger with a loving personality.

The home said he is unlike any of their previous Pet As Therapy (Pat) dogs and was a hit with the residents.

Acting General Manager Karen Poulter said: “Our residents really enjoyed their unusual visitor. We are always looking for new activities for the residents and we have seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”

Arthur Hogben, resident of Red Oaks, was very excited by the Stanley.

“As a child I used to love always being around animals,” he said.
