A MOTHER was “disgusted” to discover chicken wings she had ordered from Domino's for her children were covered in fly eggs.

Kat Lecheminant-Pay had ordered food from the branch in London Road, Brighton, on Monday afternoon as a treat for her two young sons.

The family, who live in Hanover, had just finished eating their pizzas and were ready to tuck into a side of chicken when Kat opened the box and saw fly eggs.

Takeaway giant Domino's said it is “investigating the issue” and has apologised to the family.

Kat said: “We tucked into the pizza, and we usually eat the wedges and chicken wings last.

“I opened up the chicken wings and that’s when I saw it.

“I know what fly eggs look like. I used to have a cat that would leave its food all the time and if flies went on it, they laid eggs and that’s how I know.

“I threw the wing back into the box and I felt so sick.

“Everything is meant to be made fresh, but you just never know. I’m a bit worried.”

Kat says she called the restaurant immediately, but she was left “speechless” when she was offered another box of wings as compensation for the £45 order.

The 31-year-old said: “I was asked if I wanted some fresh ones, which of course I didn’t.”

“How long had that chicken been left out for to allow the flies to lay eggs on it?

“I asked for a refund, but I still haven’t received it.”

Kat says she is grateful that neither eight-year-old Leighton or nine-year-old Riley ate the wings and became sick.

She added the situation would have been made even more difficult as Leighton, who has autism, struggles to understand illness.

She said: “My children could have been really ill with food poisoning or anything. It’s just not on.

“I have an autistic eight-year-old and every time he’s ill that’s it. It’s like an operation to make sure he’s OK and explain to him what’s happened.

“He would have freaked out if he got ill from eating the chicken.”

Kat says she has placed the wings in a container labelled "do not eat" and intends to keep them so the matter can be "properly investigated".

In a statement, Domino's told The Argus it takes food quality and safety “extremely seriously”.

A spokeswoman said: “The London Road store in Brighton has a fantastic track record with five stars recorded by the most recent Food Standards Agency review and excellent feedback from all pest control reviews from the past three months.

“We're currently investigating the issue, however, in the meantime, we've apologised to the customer for the distress caused and will keep her updated to ensure she feels suitably reassured to give us another chance in the future.”
