AN INDEPEDENT fast food outlet in the centre of Brighton has permanently closed down.

PoutineCity in Gardner Street, Brighton, opened in September last year specialising in the Canadian street food.

However, after just short of a year, the restaurant has closed its doors for the final time, with the company’s Instagram account saying that it is now “permanently closed”.

The inside of the restaurant appears mostly empty, although its outside branding remains.

Users of social media site Reddit raised concerns about the branch earlier this month after noticing it was closed, but believed that it may have only been temporary due to a Covid case or from staff shortages.

Members of the Brighton People Facebook page shared their sadness at PoutineCity’s closure, praising the quality of their food.

One user claimed that a new business will be filling the vacant space in the near future.

Poutine originated in Quebec, the French-speaking region of Canada, in the 1950s.

The dish consists of chips, cheese curds and gravy.

The restaurant’s closure comes after a difficult period for the hospitality sector amid the continuing pandemic and the effects of lockdown restrictions over the last 18 months.
