ONE in four fans who attended Brighton’s first home match of the season against Watford last Saturday munched on a homemade pie.

Piglet’s Pantry, which has been the club’s official pie supplier since 2011, sold more than 7,500 pies for Brighton’s win against newly promoted Watford.

The company's pies helped feed a quarter of the 29,485 people who attended the match at the Amex, the first competitive league fixture since they hosted Crystal Palace on February 29, 2020.

It revealed that the steak and ale pie was the fans' favourite, ahead of the chicken, ham and leek, as well as the vegetarian pie.

Jo Hunter, chief food lover at Piglet’s Pantry, started the business in 2011.

It was offered the opportunity to design the first pies for Brighton and Hove Albion, beating over 100 other pie makers to win the contract.

Jo said: “We’re thrilled to back at the American Express Community Stadium.

“Back in May 2011, many pies ago, we took part in several pie-offs and we became the new pie supplier for the just-built stadium.”

The family business sold all of the 2,500 pies it made in ten minutes for the first match at the Amex - against Tottenham Hotspur.

Piglet’s Pantry, which started off as a small seaside bakery, now makes 50,000 baked goods a week and supplies several Premier League and Championship sides.

The Argus:

It was one of many businesses forced to adapt during the first lockdown in March 2020, offering afternoon tea boxes for customers longing for a Piglet’s pie.

It has also signed a three-year sponsorship with the club recently and was the matchday ball sponsor last weekend.

Jo added: “Fast forward ten years and over 1.6 million handmade pies later, we were incredibly proud to be match ball sponsor at the weekend, and mark the start of our brand new three year sponsorship of the club – it’s a huge milestone for us.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support of the club and the fans, so we want to say thank you to them for their continued loyalty and support.”

The next match you can buy a Piglet's Pantry pie is this afternoon as Brighton take on Everton at the Amex for the 3.00pm kick off.
