A MAN has been arrested after trying to direct traffic while standing in the middle of the road "drunk".

Officers were called to the Cuckfield Road area of Hassocks yesterday at 8.30pm, said Inspector Darren Taylor.

The Mid Sussex neighbourhood policing inspector said the man was eventually arrested for being drunk and disorderly.

Shortly before, police were called to another intoxicated man disturbing a game of bowls at the Hurstpierpoint Bowling Club in South Avenue.

Insp Taylor said: "Another rather intoxicated male yesterday at 8.30pm, this time in the Cuckfield Road area of Hassocks.

"Decided he wanted to try his hand at directing traffic in the middle of the road.

"Ended up being arrested by the team for being drunk and disorderly."
