BEACHES across Sussex have been shockingly left off from a list of coolest seaside towns across the UK.

The outrageous omission by TimeOut magazine saw Dartmouth in Devon, Lyme Regis in Dorset and Whitby in Yorkshire included in their seaside guide over towns like Eastbourne, Worthing, Rye and Brighton.

However, seaside retreats in neighbouring Hampshire and Kent did appear in the list, with Lymington and Dungeness making the cut.

TimeOut described Dungeness as having a “vague apocalyptic feel”, with its shingle headland overlooking a nuclear power station.

“Thanks to this, there is something uniquely beautiful about the place, with its lighthouses, abandoned fishing boats, wooden cabins and thriving wildlife.”

Lymington’s Georgian style and annual seafood festival also attracted praise from the London-based magazine.

It said: “Lymington’s a refined seaside town with postcard-perfect high streets – but the boat-filled harbour is the main attraction.

“Get out on the water with one of the town’s sailing experiences, join a chartered fishing excursion or just watch the world go by with a pint from one of the wonky-fronted old pubs.”

However, Sussex can take some comfort after Brighton Beach was named Britain’s most Instagrammed beach earlier this year, with West Wittering also being featured in the top 100.
