SUMMER may have only just come to an end, but the Royal Pavilion is already getting ready to open its ice rink - and this year it will be bigger than ever.

Dubbed the UK’s most picturesque ice rink, the rink offers more space this year to give visitors plenty of room on the ice, with a break of half an hour between sessions to allow for social distancing and "clean downs" between sessions.

Its return follows a year’s hiatus due to an increasing number of coronavirus cases in the latter half of last year.

Shella Parkin, managing director of Laine Ltd, which puts on the rink each year, explained that the rink remains the only one of its kind in the UK powered exclusively by green energy.

“It is vital that events like ours - which are all about having fun - ensure that this does not come at a cost to the environment,” she said.

“In this year of all years, when the UK will be hosting COP26 in November, we hope other events will follow suit and undertake to switch to green energy for their power needs.”

The rink, outside of the famous Brighton landmark, is located within the bustling North Laine district and offers plenty of space for experienced skaters and beginners alike.

Tickets for the 45 minute skating slots are available now for £15 for those 12 and over, and £10 for under 12s. The rink will open at the end of next month through to the start of next year.
