FIREFIGHTERS have scaled a block of flats to rescue a distressed pigeon stuck on a roof.

One crew from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service scaled the building in College Gardens, Worthing, using a large ladder in the dead of night yesterday evening.

Pictures taken from the scene show two firefighters climbing to the roof while the bird remained stuck in wiring.

Rescuers used lights on the fire engine to illuminate the building as they made their ascent to the rooftop.
