PEOPLE have been out enjoying the sun today while temperatures reached a high of 27C.

Just like the rest of the UK, Brighton and Hove has been hit by a heatwave - despite summer officially coming to an end.

Beaches in Brighton and Hove had plenty of visitors even though the work week has only just started for some.

Those lucky enough not to be at work were pictured basking in the heat.

Beachgoers were seen getting into the water for a swim, paddle-boarding and jet skiing in an attempt to cool down.

While most were walking into the water, some decided to jump off the groynes.

Others had brought down kayaks, dinghies and even jet skies.

One beachgoer, who did not want to be named, said: "This weather is a lovely to surprise have at the start of the month.

"Usually, at this time, I start thinking about having a look for my winter clothes as I prepare for colder weather.

"I am just lucky enough to have the day off and make the most of it."

For those wanting an ice cream, they had to wait as queues had formed outside popular spots along the seafront.

Marrocco's in King's Esplanade, Hove, had a queue of a dozen people at one point.

The warm weather is expected to last for several days, with the temperatures hovering around the mid-20s in many parts of the country.
