A NEW Indian street food restaurant is opening in The Lanes.

Mowgli Street Food will be moving into the former Oasis store site in Dukes Lane in 2022.

Mowgli was founded in 2014 by Nisha Katona who had a “nagging obsession to build an eatery serving the kind of food Indians eat at home and on their streets”.

She opened her first restaurant in Liverpool and there are now 13 Mowgli restaurants across the UK.

Nisha Katona says, “Brighton has always been high on our wish list for Mowgli.

"It is exactly our kind of town with our kind of people; bohemian brave foodies.

"Exactly the kind of community we can’t wait to join and feed.”

The restaurant's menu will offer a "healthy zing" and will include a wide selection of vegan dishes.

Guests will be able to choose to sit in a "swing seat" giving their visit a "whole new level of fun" and will even be able to bring their dogs.

In 2018 Mowgli was placed in The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 list, followed by Nisha being awarded an MBE for services to the food industry the following year.

A dedicated curry evangelist, Nisha is continuing with her Mowgli expansion and still insists on hand-picking "curry virgins" for her kitchens, hand training each one personally.

She is also a food writer in The Sunday Times and and is the author of Pimp My Rice and Mowgli Cook Book.

This week, Nisha been announced as one of the new judges on BBC2’s Great British Menu.

Matt Beardall, partner at Green and Partners Agency who brokered the deal, says, “Mowgli will be the perfect neighbour for our current Dukes Lane retailers providing a destination go-to for this vibrant town’s food lovers. We are thoroughly looking forward to welcoming them to our neighbourhood.”

Dukes Lane already offers a vibrant mix of national and independent shops and boutiques such as Toast, Bare Minerals and Brighton’s very own Profile Fashion, and has an exciting pop-up schedule running throughout the year.

The restaurant will join existing vegan cafe, Brand Sixteen, and popular art destinations, They Made This, The Brighton Box and Labyrinth Gallery.
