A MAJOR carriageway has been closed after a motorhome flipped during a collision this afternoon.

Motorists are advised to avoid the A23 after the vehicle rolled on the carriageway.

Pictures taken from the scene show emergency services attending the crash site, with crews from the South East Coast Ambulance Service seen nearby.

A trailer can also be seen abandoned in the verge beside the busy dual carriageway.

Writing on Twitter, Inspector Darren Taylor said: "Avoid the A23 by Sayers Common at the moment (northbound) as a motorhome has rolled over and ended up on it's side and is causing tailbacks.

"Our traffic colleagues are there, getting the motor home removed from the scene."
