A WOMAN was sexually assaulted when she was walking home.

The 39-year-old was followed along Edward Street in Brighton at around 3.45am on Saturday (September 11) by a man who approached her from behind and assaulted her in Montague Place.

She screamed and the man ran off into College Place.

The victim is being supported by specially trained officers.

Police are seeking witnesses, with the suspect described as white, medium build, about six foot and clean shaven. He is described as wearing a red hooded top and jeans, and carrying a paper bag of some sort.

Detective Inspector Andy Standing said: “This is a serious though isolated incident, and anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw anything suspicious is asked to contact us either online or contact 101, quoting serial 231 of 11/09."
