A HIGH street clothes store has installed a donation box as part of a new pilot scheme.

Superdry, in the Quadrant in Brighton city centre, has partnered with Oxfam to install boxes where the public can donate their used clothes.

For every donation to a "give back box," Superdry has pledged to give £1 to Oxfam, while customers can enter a prize draw to win £100.

Available from Wednesday, September 15, the boxes are placed at 22 stores around the UK as part of a pilot project.

The scheme is part of Superdry’s commitment to become the most sustainably listed fashion brand on the planet by 2030, as well ensuring all pure cotton items are organic by 2025.

Superdry CEO Julian Dunkerton said the urgency of the climate crisis has broadened how the brand approach business.

“As a business, we want to effect positive change for present and future generations and build a positive environmental legacy,” he said.

The scheme will coincide with Oxfam’s #SecondHandSeptember project, which raises awareness about the harmful effects that the overconsumption of fashion has on the planet

Once clothes have been donated, the customer can scan a QR code available on the box, where they will be given the chance to enter a prize draw to win a £100 Superdry voucher.

Danny Sriskandarajah, chief executive of Oxfam GB, said: “We’re excited to be partnering with Superdry to help people donate clothes to Oxfam, which will raise vital funds to fight poverty around the world.

“Donating to Oxfam also helps to reduce the impact of clothing on the environment by giving garments a new lease of life.”

Superdry stores will also be twinned with their local Oxfam shop, which will collect all clothes donated to be resold, reused or recycled, in order to support the complete life cycle of the item and its revival for resale.

By twinning with our local Oxfam shops, the scheme minimises the distance the clothes travel to reach their new home, as well as supporting the communities they operate in.
