TWO men have been jailed after one fatally injected a woman with drugs.

Zoe Mitchell died from an overdose on October 31 last year after injecting class A drugs with John Slattery and Keenan James in Brighton.

Ms Mitchell, 37, met Slattery and James at a car park in Trafalgar Lane at 5pm that day to take drugs they had bought previously.

CCTV footage shows Slattery injecting her with a substance from a syringe before both he and James injected into their own arms.

Ms Mitchell lost consciousness around ten minutes later.

The pair called an ambulance and following resuscitation attempts by Slattery, James and paramedics, Ms Mitchell was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

She died on November 7. James and Slattery were arrested shortly after.

Slattery, 42, of no fixed address, was jailed for 30 months after admitting manslaughter and administering a noxious substance to commit grievous bodily harm.

James, 35, of Lower Rock Gardens in Brighton, received a 20-month prison sentence for possession with the intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine.

Detective Inspector Dee Wells said: “Zoe Mitchell’s tragic death emphasises the devastating impacts of drug addiction and the huge risks taken by drug users.

“There should be no doubt that illegal drugs are deadly substances that can and do destroy lives.

"Our thoughts are with Zoe’s family and friends following this awful tragedy.”
