Hollingbury Park Tennis Courts reopening event tomorrow

Hollingbury Park Tennis Courts, which is one of the oldest in Brighton, was in much need for a resurface after years of battling to save the courts.

Fiona Hayes, chairwoman of the community club in Ditchling Road, decided to go to the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) for help. The LTA got in contact with the designer brand, Fred Perry, who wanted to put money back into grassroots tennis.

The resurfacing cost around £20,000 and took six days to be completed. The courts are now branded in Fred Perry colours with the courts in black and champagne gold lines, as well as the Fred Perry logo.

Fiona said the event will be happening all day from 9.00am, right through until about 5.00pm, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1.00pm.

She said: “We’re welcoming all ages, all are welcome. Anyone interested in joining, great.

“You will be able to trial on the courts as a member in the afternoon.

“The ribbon cutting will be at 1.00pm, that is when Matt Glazier from LTA will be there. We’re going to make him a presentation to thank him for what he’s done.”

Matt helped secure the funding from Fred Perry with the temporary resurfacing, which will last between five and seven years.

Fred Perry have also paid for one year of junior coaching to encourage children to get involved in tennis down at the club.
